The office of Congressman Adam Kinzinger announced the office will begin accepting nominations for the 2017 Congressional Veteran Commendation. This annual event formally recognizes the outstanding veterans across the 16th District of Illinois. A veteran can be nominated for a number of reasons such as, but not limited to, an outstanding service record, veteran leadership and advocacy after their service, and/or providing community leadership after their service.
“The 16th Congressional District is full of incredible individuals who have served in our Armed Forces,” said Rep. Kinzinger. “Many of these brave men and women not only dedicated themselves to our freedom and security while in uniform, but continued to serve after leaving the military. I look forward to honoring those veterans who have proudly served our communities and our great nation during their military and post-military careers. It is my hope that their unwavering dedication to their country will continue to inspire future generations to achieve the same standard of public service.”
In order to be considered for a Congressional Veteran Commendation, the veteran must: currently reside in the IL-16 District; must have served as active duty military personnel; must have received an honorable discharge from a branch of the United States Armed Forces; and has not previously received a Congressional Veteran Commendation. A nomination form and a copy of the veteran’s DD Form 214 must be submitted for each nominated veteran.
