OTTAWA- A $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will fund the investigation of recently discovered coal tar deposits at the old Central School site in Ottawa and several other questionable sites in the city.

There were supporting comments from Ottawa Mayor Robert Eschbach and U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon.

Kinzinger said without the remediation program land polluted was bypassed for redevelopment and in some cases agricultural land was taken out of production.

"The ability to return brownfield sites is very important because it really helps get rid of the blight and helps fantastic things to come along," he said. "I'm very supportive of this outstanding program that really helps make our communities stronger, better and more beautiful."
