WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement after the Obama administration announced a final agreement in nuclear negotiations with Iran:
“From the beginning of these negotiations, this Administration has had one goal – to make a deal whatever the cost. Instead of retreating from the negotiating table, this Administration has consistently retreated from the redlines it drew and abandoned all attempts to truly achieve the goal of dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.
“Iran has done nothing to give the international community reason to believe they will stop exporting terrorism throughout the world. The devil will be in the details, but based on what we know, this deal provides the world’s largest sponsor of terror billions in sanctions relief while failing to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The last thing we should be doing right now is contributing to an arms race in an increasingly unstable region. Furthermore, I am concerned that lifting the U.N. arms embargo and easing restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missiles program are dangerous concessions that will only embolden and advance Iran’s weapon procurement.
“I will be reviewing every detail of this agreement closely, looking to see how it purports to hold Iran – a country that has unashamedly lied and deceived the world in the past – accountable. However I cannot support any agreement that would threaten our national security.”
