Kids are back to school, football season is upon us, and Congress is back in session. It feels like summer flew by quickly, and August was no exception. Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) had a busy month back in the 16th Congressional District and with his military duty for the Air National Guard. So before we fall ahead into September, here are some ‘Kinzinger Highlights’ from the Summer District Work Period:

1.    Honoring Veterans in IL-16: Rep. Kinzinger held his annual Veteran’s Commendation Event in Ottawa, IL where he honored 15 local veterans for their continued commitment to serving their communities, after serving our great nation in uniform. More photos from this event can be found here.

2.    Visits with local manufacturers: Family-owned Slagel Manufacturing welcomed Rep. Kinzinger to their facility and gave him a tour of their operations in Forrest, IL.

3.    Roundtable conversations with community bankers: Rep. Kinzinger joined the Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI) to discuss the importance of responsible banking and the many issues that face the banking industry in the Northern Illinois region, and nationwide.

4.    Talking Afghanistan strategy on Fox News: Following the President’s announcement of a renewed strategy in Afghanistan, Rep. Kinzinger spoke with Fox News about the War in Afghanistan and the need to ‘make the Taliban realize they cannot win.’ Read his official statement on the President’s address here.

5.    Lunch with the Illinois Valley Rotary Clubs: At their August luncheon, Rep. Kinzinger joined the LaSalle, Peru, and IL Valley Rotary Clubs and thanked them for their unwavering commitment to making positive changes in our IL-16 communities.

6.    Hearing from family-run small businesses: Rep. Kinzinger visited the father-and-son owned ‘Whiskey Acres’ located in DeKalb, IL. They shared their story about working with businesses within the community and how they navigate a niche market as a small business.

7.    Showing and sharing #HuskiePride: Before sitting down with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, Rep. Kinzinger met with Northern Illinois University (NIU) President Lisa Freeman to discuss how he can best serve the area.

8.    ‘I Make America’ Event: During his tour of Rhino Ag, a Gibson City manufacturing company, Rep. Kinzinger joined the Association of Equipment Manufacturers in their ‘I Make America’ initiative to advocate for the almost 120,000 jobs across Illinois’ manufacturing industry.

9.    Resources for Veterans: With officials from the Chicago Regional VA Office, Madison VA Hospital, Machesney Park Armory, Rockford Vet Center, and Winnebago County VAC, Rep. Kinzinger hosted a Veterans Resource Event for IL-16 veterans. This event held in Rockford, IL gave veterans a chance to learn more about the benefits available to them.

10.    In-studio with WCMY: In addition to his monthly call, Rep. Kinzinger joined Jay LeSeure in-studio for the ‘Morning Meeting’ program on WCMY. The full interview appeared on Facebook Live as well and can be found here.
