Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) and the entire Illinois GOP House Delegation sent a letter to President Trump sharing their concerns over White House talks of pardoning and/or commuting the sentence on former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. After sending out the attached letter, Congressman Kinzinger released this statement:

“This would be an incredibly damaging mistake to pardon Rod Blagojevich. He is the swamp of Springfield and needs to be held accountable for the crimes he committed. Not only were his actions illegal, but they undermined the voters of Illinois and slapped our democracy in the face. Public corruption runs rampant in Springfield, and we must get a handle on it. Granting clemency to someone who violated the trust of the American people in the way Blagojevich has would have damaging consequences for our political system, the public’s trust, and the precedent this would set for the future. Along with my fellow Illinoisans, I urge the President to carefully consider the impacts of the Rod Blagojevich case.”

Congressman Kinzinger spoke to WROK’s Riley O’Neil about this issue, among others, during an interview last week. The full audio can be found here.
