Congressman Adam Kinzinger has mixed feelings regarding tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Kinzinger said he doesn’t support the recent tariffs imposed by President Trump against China but the republican lawmaker understands why they are necessary.

WCSJ News spoke with Kinzinger last Thursday and he gave his thoughts on the tariffs.

He pointed to a recent conversation he had with a manufacturer, who said China puts tariffs against him to drive prices down due to oversupply then will buy his goods when the prices are low and re-implement tariffs when the price comes up again, a practice Kinzinger called abusive and unfair.

Kinzinger also discussed the negative affects the tariffs could have on local farmers.

Kinzinger’s 16th congressional district covers Grundy, Livingston and LaSalle counties.
