Washington, DC – After attending the 2019 State of the Union (SOTU) Address, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) released the following statement reacting to the President’s speech:

“The American economy is booming, and it’s encouraging to see the real-life benefits of our pro-growth policies help hard-working families in IL-16 and across the country. The surge in manufacturing and other fields has created thousands of jobs and boosted confidence in our markets. The unemployment rate fell to the lowest it’s been in nearly 50 years, while wage growth is on the rise. I’m glad the President used his opportunity tonight to share this good news with the American people, and remind us that despite our many challenges, the State of our Union is strong.

“Bipartisanship is critical, and I applaud the President’s message tonight urging us all to work across the aisle and find ways to get things done to best serve the American people. It’s truly on each of us to keep the American Dream alive – through hard work, civility towards one another, and united in our love of freedom, we can leave our country stronger and safer for the next generation.”

Ahead of the 2019 SOTU Address, Congressman Kinzinger welcomed Officer Mark Dallas of the Dixon Police Department to Washington, D.C. as his guest to attend the Joint Session speech on the House Floor. The full statement can be found here.

Congressman Kinzinger has often talked about the need for greater civility in our public discourse as well as improving the tone used in politics. The Congressman recently published an op-ed in the Rockford Register Star titled ‘Civility Now!’ that calls for a tampering down of the angry rhetoric used today. The op-ed can be found here, and on the Congressman’s website.
