ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R- 16th District) paid a stop to Rockford on Tuesday for a free tax file briefing.
Tax professionals walked Stateline residents through an interactive workshop in order to highlight free tax preparation services for low-income taxpayers.
Taxpayers involved with programs such as the Free File Alliance, IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and AARP Tax Aide.
"For a lot of folks with very simple returns, one W-2, students, a lot of folks like that would be eligible for free filing," said David Macklin, CCIA representative. "We want to encourage them that are just getting into the workforce to try the free file program."
Professionals offered tax assistance for low-to-moderate income families and senior citizens.
