Congressman Kinzinger Statement on Venezuela

Washington, DC – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) released the following statement on the current situation in Venezuela today: “The United States stands with the freedom-loving people of Venezuela, and respects their legitimate constitutional government under Juan Guaido. It’s time for the Maduro regime to step down. “Instead, the Maduro regime is doubling down by closing all public transportation and tear gassing their citizens. They have enlisted help from allies to shut down and cut off their internet, putting a stop to the powerful social media presence of those seeking freedom. We cannot allow Russia and China to aid the corrupt Maduro regime. Just look at what Vladimir Putin has done in Syria, aiding in the genocide of over half a million people and destroying homes, hospitals, schools, and more across the country. “Enough is enough, and today, the Venezuelan people have made the choice to stand up and take back their country. The United States stands in full support of their fight to ensure democracy will prevail.” Congressman Kinzinger spoke on the issue via Twitter and Facebook early this morning, and was then interviewed on Fox News to discuss the breaking news in Venezuela. The Congressman spoke about the split military situation, and what this all means for the people living there today and the thousands of Venezuelans displaced across the region. His full interview with America’s Newsroom can be found here on the Congressman’s YouTube page. |
