Washington, DC – After attending the State of the Union (SOTU) Address this evening, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) released the following statement:
“At a time when divisive rhetoric is commonplace and partisan politics run rampant, it’s important to remember that we live in the greatest nation on Earth with the freedom to have these disagreements with one another. The United States serves as an example to all who seek freedom, and we should never take that for granted.
“Tonight, I am optimistic about the current state of our union. With renewed confidence, the U.S. is strong economically and energy independent. Our impressive job growth has created a 50-year low unemployment rate nationwide, and an all-time low rate in Illinois.
“Despite our political disagreements, this divided government came together and accomplished some major wins on behalf of the American people. Through the USMCA, our trade deal was modernized and our workers received the certainty they need to compete. We took bipartisan, bicameral action against robocalls and closed loopholes that allowed pharmaceuticals to charge taxpayers higher prices for their medications.
“These wins are worth touting, and reasons to feel optimistic about what more we can accomplish if we put aside our differences and focus on bettering the lives of the people we serve.
“Later this year, the American people will have a choice on how they want our country to be run: free and prosperous policies that allow choice or government-controlled, one-size-fits-all policies that determine your economic and healthcare decisions. With record unemployment, rising wages, and continued job growth, the American people are seeing the benefits of our pro-growth policies. It’s time we remember how great America truly is and how fortunate we are to call this country our home.”
