WCSJ News: Reps Underwood and Kinzinger Encourage Constituents to Take CensusU.S. Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) and Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) issued statements in response to officials revising the 2020 Census timeline. The U.S. Census Bureau is adjusting its operations because of the COVID-19 outbreak. In a statement, the bureau said the changes allow officials to protect the health and safety of the American public and Census Bureau employees, implement guidance from federal, state and local authorities, and ensure a complete and accurate count of all communities. This will include recommended personal protective equipment and social distancing practices. The timeline, as revised, features a new deadline for the public to self-respond to the 2020 Census. Officials with the U.S. Census Bureau need the public to respond by Oct. 31. The field data collection operations, under this plan, will resume beginning as soon as possible following June 1, officials said. The Census Bureau had temporarily suspended in-person activities. The new date for the final 2020 Census count to be delivered to the president will be April 30, 2021, officials said.
Underwood said in a statement that Illinoisans have a chance to have an impact on cities and towns across northern Illinois, and they can do it in less than ten minutes by taking the 2020 Census. Kinzinger also encouraged his constituents to take the census. He said that these delays are warranted to protect citizens and census employees. For more information, go to Census.gov. |
