Washington, DC – As schools across IL-16 end the year and virtual graduation ceremonies take place, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) shared the following message for the senior class as they graduate in these unprecedented times.

The Congressman’s full speech, as shared in his video message, can be found transcribed below.

“Congratulations to the Class of 2020.

“It may not have gone how you planned or been exactly what you imagined, but you did it—you graduated high school and that’s something to be celebrated.

“These last three months have placed an unprecedented hardship on the American people, impacting our daily lives in so many ways, and testing the American spirit and the will of our citizens.

“There’s really no point in sugar coating things—the coronavirus sucks. But along with the bad, there’s been a whole lot of good. And you, the Class of 2020, you are something good.

“You are hope and resilience. You are persevering and adjusting, setting examples for people of all ages across the country. And today, on your graduation day, we celebrate you.

“I know it’s been extremely disappointing to have your senior year cut short, but I want to reiterate something here: it may not have gone the way you planned, but you achieved what you set out to achieve and the experience will undoubtedly make you stronger as you move on from high school and enter the next phase of your lives,

“Be hopeful and resilient on your journey, persevere and adapt to new challenges, and carry the good that’s come from this experience with you every step of the way.

“I have faith that your positive spirit will lead and shape the future of this country, and I look forward to watching all that you accomplish in the years ahead.

“Congratulations, graduates. Here’s to you, the Class of 2020, I wish you all the very best!”
