Rep. Kinzinger Statement on Pritzker Crime Bill
U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement after Illinois Governor Pritzker signed HB3635 into law today.
Washington, DC – After Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 3635 into law yesterday, U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement: “There is no doubt that we need criminal justice reform in this country, and in the State of Illinois. We have to address the violence in our communities and especially the shocking death toll in the city of Chicago on any given day. We need some accountability and we need to provide our law enforcement with the resources and training necessary to do their jobs. But the 764-page criminal justice bill that Governor Pritzker signed is dangerous and misguided. The HB3635 legislation puts victims of violence at risk, takes away due process from our police officers, and puts undue strain on an already overwhelmed criminal justice system. We need to make some reforms in this country, but radical changes that prohibit law enforcement from doing their job to protect and serve leaves us all increasingly vulnerable.” More information on the Illinois Senate legislation can be found here.
