Washington, DC – Following the United Nations’ Security Council vote on extending humanitarian aid in Syria, Congressmen Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Co-Chairs of the Friends of a Free, Stable and Democratic Syria Caucus in the House, released the following statement:

“For years, the Assad regime and their backers have attempted to break the will of the Syrian people by excessive force. As a result, nearly 600,000 Syrians have lost their lives and over 13 million need lifesaving humanitarian care. With today’s news that the UN Security Council has renewed the humanitarian border crossings for 12 months, we are glad to see that the international community understands the dire crisis occurring in Syria.

“While the Russian Federation continues to support the crimes against humanity that are happening across Syria, the United States and our allies must work to ease the suffering of the Syrian people. We now urge the Administration to work with our allies to ensure that the international aid reaches those Syrians who need it the most and remains out of the blood-soaked hands of Bashar al-Assad.”
